Audit & Architecture
Bad account structure creates wasted spend. We find it, fix it, and rebuild for profitable scale.
Our Process
Bad Account Structure Creates Wasted Spend
One of the first things we investigate when taking over a PPC account isn't the bid strategy. It's the underlying structure.
Because ad platform algorithms depend on structured signals to understand who to target, how much to bid, and where to route traffic. If your campaigns mix wildly different intent levels, bundle mismatched products, or rely on outdated match types, you are effectively training the platform to spend money inefficiently.
Imagine a campaign spending $10,000 a month with an apparently healthy cost-per-click. That sounds acceptable. But what if $4,000 of that budget is being swallowed by low-intent generic searches? What if high-margin product categories are starved for budget because they share a campaign with high-volume, low-value offers? What if brand search traffic is artificially inflating overall conversion numbers? Suddenly, that spend tells a very different story.
The problem isn't simply poor campaign organization; it's a structural bottleneck preventing profitable scaling. Modern search engine marketing requires a deliberate architecture designed around margins, customer value, and intent. That's where our Audit & Architecture process comes in.
What $10,000/mo can actually look like
$4,000
Swallowed by low-intent generic searches that never convert
High-margin categories starved
Sharing a campaign with high-volume, low-value offers drains their budget
Brand traffic inflating numbers
Artificially boosting overall conversion rates and masking true performance
Suddenly, that "healthy" spend tells a very different story.
What We Audit & Build
Campaign Segmentation & Hierarchy
We review or rebuild your account structure, separating campaigns by business lines, profit margins, geographic targets, and funnel stages. We eliminate bloated, legacy campaigns and replace them with modular structures built for scale.
Match Type & Targeting Control
We audit how broad, phrase, and exact match keywords are utilized. We clean up broad-match bleeding, remove overlapping keyword clutter, and establish strict negative keyword lists to prevent internal campaign competition.
Network & Settings Hygiene
We verify that ad networks, search partner distributions, and auto-applied Google recommendations are configured correctly, ensuring your budget isn't silently drained by low-quality display networks or irrelevant automated opting-in.
First-Party Audience Integration
We integrate your remarketing lists, customer match databases, and in-market audience segments into campaign structures to refine bid aggressiveness based on user familiarity.
A Checklist Asks vs. An Audit Asks
Checklist Asks
"Is the campaign active?"
Audit Asks
"Is this campaign structured to give us total control over where every dollar goes, or are we letting default settings dilute our budget?"

Where Google Ads Budget Actually Goes in an Unaudited Account
Industry benchmarks consistently show that accounts without a structured audit and architecture review waste between 30–60% of their monthly budget on traffic that was never going to convert. Here is how that waste typically breaks down across a $10,000/month account.

What a Proper PPC Account Audit Actually Covers
Most agencies run a "PPC audit" that amounts to a checklist: are conversion tracking tags firing? Are ad extensions enabled? Is the billing active? That is not an audit — that is a health check. A real Google Ads account audit is a forensic exercise that answers a fundamentally different question: is this account structured to win?
At LA PPC Pros, our audit process starts with campaign segmentation. We look at whether high-margin product lines or services are competing for budget against low-margin offers in the same campaign. We examine match type distribution — specifically, the ratio of exact and phrase match to broad match modified terms — and cross-reference search term reports to identify the queries actually triggering your ads versus the keywords you think you're bidding on.
We then move to Quality Score analysis by ad group, landing page relevance scoring, and a full negative keyword gap analysis. In most accounts we audit, we find between 200 and 800 negative keywords that should have been added months ago. Each missing negative is a recurring tax on your budget.
Campaign Architecture: The Foundation Everything Else Depends On
Once the audit is complete, we rebuild the account architecture from the ground up — or restructure the existing campaigns where salvageable. The architecture decisions we make here determine how well Smart Bidding can learn, how cleanly you can read performance data, and how efficiently you can scale.
The core principle is isolation: each campaign should have a single, measurable objective. Brand campaigns run separately from non-brand. Competitor campaigns run separately from category campaigns. High-ticket services run separately from entry-level offers. This separation is not bureaucratic — it is what allows you to set appropriate CPA targets, control impression share by segment, and make budget decisions based on actual contribution margin rather than blended averages.
Architecture principles we apply
- Single-theme ad groups (STAGs) for high-value terms
- Brand / non-brand campaign separation
- Geo-segmented campaigns for LA metro vs. broader California
- Device bid modifier calibration by conversion rate
- Dayparting aligned to your actual sales team hours
- Audience layering on all search campaigns
