Lead Generation — Step 03

Campaign Build

With a defined lead and a page that converts, the campaign build is where strategy becomes infrastructure. We build search and social campaigns around your ideal customer profile — the right keywords, the right audiences, the right message at every funnel stage.

Architecture Before Activation

Most lead gen campaigns are built backwards. Agencies launch first and optimize later — burning budget on a poorly structured account while waiting for data to accumulate. We build the architecture before we spend a dollar.

A well-built lead gen campaign is a system with interdependent parts: keyword strategy informs ad copy, ad copy informs landing page messaging, landing page messaging informs audience segmentation, audience segmentation informs bid strategy. When these parts are aligned, the system compounds. When they're misaligned, every optimization is fighting against itself.

The campaign build phase is where we translate your ICP definition and offer strategy into a live, structured ad account — segmented by intent, staged by funnel position, and instrumented to feed quality signals back to the platform from day one.

In 2026, with Google's Performance Max and Meta's Advantage+ campaigns consolidating control into AI-driven systems, the quality of your campaign architecture — the assets you provide, the signals you configure, the audience seeds you build — determines how well the algorithm performs on your behalf.

Channel Selection Guide

Lead Quality vs. Cost Per Lead

Relative positioning — not absolute values. Varies by industry and ICP.

← Lower CPL · Higher CPL →← Lower Quality · Higher Quality →
Google Search
LinkedIn
Microsoft Ads
Meta
YouTube
Display

High-quality channels (top-right) justify higher CPL when deal size supports it. Budget allocation should reflect expected pipeline ROI, not just CPL.

Channel Selection by Lead Type

Not every channel belongs in every lead gen program. We select and weight channels based on your ICP, average deal size, and sales cycle length.

Google Search

Highest

Best For

High-intent, in-market buyers with defined search behavior

Key Consideration

Exact and phrase match keywords targeting bottom-of-funnel queries. Negative keyword architecture is as important as keyword selection.

Meta (Facebook & Instagram)

Medium-High with proper qualification

Best For

B2C high-ticket, local services, broad ICP with demographic targeting

Key Consideration

Lead gen forms vs. landing page traffic tested by offer type. Lookalike audiences seeded from CRM data outperform interest targeting by 2–3x.

LinkedIn

High — but expensive

Best For

B2B with defined job title, seniority, or company size targeting

Key Consideration

CPL is 3–5x higher than Meta, but SQL rate is often 2–3x higher. ROI depends on deal size. Best for enterprise and mid-market B2B.

Google Display & YouTube

Low direct, high assisted

Best For

Retargeting warm audiences and building brand familiarity

Key Consideration

Rarely drives direct conversions. Valuable for keeping your brand visible to prospects in long consideration cycles.

Microsoft Ads

High

Best For

B2B audiences, older demographics, lower CPCs than Google

Key Consideration

Often overlooked. LinkedIn profile targeting in Microsoft Ads allows B2B audience layering on search — a unique capability.

What We Build

A complete lead gen campaign build includes these components, executed in sequence.

Keyword Architecture

Intent-segmented keyword lists organized by funnel stage — branded, competitor, category, and problem-aware queries in separate campaigns with independent budgets and bids. Negative keyword lists built before launch.

Ad Copy Matrix

Multiple headline and description variants written for each ad group — testing different value propositions, CTAs, and proof points. RSA assets built to maximize ad strength while maintaining message-to-keyword relevance.

Audience Architecture

Custom intent audiences, in-market segments, CRM-based customer match lists, and lookalike audiences built and layered across campaigns. Remarketing lists segmented by page visited, time on site, and funnel stage.

Conversion Tracking Setup

Every conversion action tagged, tested, and verified before launch. Primary conversion actions set to lead quality signals (not just form fills). Enhanced conversions configured for Google, CAPI for Meta.

Bid Strategy Configuration

Manual CPC for new campaigns without conversion history. Transition to Target CPA or Target ROAS once sufficient conversion data accumulates. Smart Bidding learning periods managed to avoid premature optimization.

Budget Allocation Model

Budget distributed across channels and campaigns based on expected CPL, volume potential, and lead quality — not evenly. High-intent search gets disproportionate budget; awareness channels get minimum viable spend.

Performance Max: How We Use It (and When We Don't)

Performance Max consolidates Search, Display, YouTube, Gmail, and Maps into a single AI-driven campaign. When fed high-quality assets and conversion signals, it can outperform traditional campaign structures. When fed generic assets and low-quality signals, it burns budget on irrelevant placements.

We use PMax selectively — typically after a traditional search campaign has accumulated sufficient conversion data to seed the algorithm. We never launch PMax as a first campaign for a new account.

Asset group segmentation by audience theme, product line, or funnel stage is critical. A single PMax campaign with mixed assets produces mixed results. We build separate asset groups for each distinct audience segment and monitor search term reports obsessively to identify and exclude irrelevant queries.

Brand exclusions are non-negotiable. PMax will cannibalize your branded search traffic if not properly configured — inflating reported conversions while delivering no incremental value.
